The Fowler girls’ track team kicked up their heels at regionals and came home with a regional championship. Fowler had 113 points followed by Wray 98, Springfield 48, McClave 47 and Crowley County 45.

All the hard work in practices, good attitudes and running with heart has paid off for this talented group of athletes. What is amazing is that the make-up of the team is two seniors, two sophomores and six freshmen. Who would have thought they would be heading to state? Credit outstanding coaching from Becky Hershey, Lewis Flores and Jared Miles for motivating, encouraging and inspiring these girls to give their best effort at all times for the TEAM.

Top three finishes in each event will go to state. Grizzlies had four relays qualify and four girls qualifying in six individual events.

Placing but not qualifying for state are as follows:
200m dash - Mikalann Kinslow 6th; 800m run - Chelsey Wager 5th - 2.37; 1600m run - Brooke Grissom 5th - 6:01, Michaela Montez 6th - 6.14; 3200m run - M. Montez 5th - 13.54; 100m hurdles - Ashleigh Fox 5th - 17.5, Shawnee Burke 6th - 18.06; 300m hurdles - Karlee Wager 6th - 54.92; 800m relay - Ashleigh Fox, Shawnee Burke, Morgan Moss, Mikalann Kinslow 4th - 1:57.7; long jump - Morgan Moss 6th - 14’1” and 8th in triple jump.

The Grizzlies will be competing at state held at the Dutch Clark Stadium in Pueblo on Friday and Saturday May 16-17.

The boys team didn’t qualify any for state but put out a great effort and continued to show improvement.
