Manzanola continues early season dominance

The Manzanola Bobcats continued its early season dominance with two wins Thursday and Friday.

Manzanola defeated John Mall 14-3 in five innings on Thursday then downed the  Springfield Longhorns 16-6 in another five inning outing on Friday.

Springfield started off with a bang in the first when Bric Koehn hit a two-run homer to take the the early 2-0 lead. 

Manzanola responded with 11 runs in its half of the first. James Aragon highlighted the 11-run inning with a three-run homer. The Longhorns chipped away at the lead with a run in the top of second and the third to narrow the score to 11-4. Manzanola scored five runs in the bottom of the third to extend its lead to 16-3. 

Springfield attempted to escape a five inning loss by scoring runs in the fourth and fifth innings, but were unable to score enough as the game was called in the fifth because of the 10-run rule.

The Bobcat improved their record to 4-2, with their two only two lossed coming at the hands of Cheyenne Wells and South Baca County.  They will be on the road Tuesday when take on the Crowley County Chargers. The game begins at 4:30 p.m.
