"We are truly blessed to live in Fowler." Those were just a few of the words spoken by Elaine White at the benefit which was held in her honor on Saturday, Jan. 28, at Fowler Junior High School. The benefit featured a dinner and dance with Southern Impulse. More than 400 people attended, not only from the community of Fowler, but from all across the Lower Arkansas Valley, to show their support.
Elaine White recently diagnosed with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma.
"I was overwhelmed when I walked in and saw so many people! It was amazing to see friends, family and even people I didn't know come out to support us. I can't even express how grateful we are for the support we've received, not only from our wonderful little community but also from friends and family who live elsewhere," Elaine said.
White went on to say,"Britany Keen is a good friend of ours and once she found out I had been diagnosed with cancer she wanted to do something to help. Before we knew it she had a benefit in the works and with the help of Suzanne Anarde, Rob Martin and countless others, the event Saturday night was amazing!"
Jake Norton was the man in charge of announcing the raffle winners
Scott Fillmore was the winner of a flat screen television, while Larry Grammon, who works at Black Hills Energy won the laptop computer.
Fowler FFA students helped with serving drinks and clean up, Fowler volleyball and girls basketball teams helped serve.
"There were so many people who donated food, raffle items and their time, it's amazing," said Anarde.
"We are still in the process of compiling the donations list, a big thank you will be published next week," Anarde said.
Elaine had her second chemo treatment on Monday, the Tribune plans to interview her in more detail which will also be published in next week's Fowler Tribune.
