Where are they now?
Fowler High School Graduate Aaron Cannon was to take part in the launch of the Shuttle.
Name: Aaron Cannon
Family: Jennifer Cannon (Wife), Michael Cannon (Father), Jeannette Cannon (Mother), Sara Cannon (Sister)
Year Graduated FHS? 1995
Where did you attend college and when did you graduate?
BS in Aerospace Engineering from CU Boulder in 1999
Employer: Booz Allen Hamilton
How long: 18 Months
Why did you choose to work in this field?
I was always interested in space and flight.  As a child, the spaces Legos were always my favorite.  In school, Math and Science were my favorite subjects.  In college, I operated satellites at the CU Laboratory for Atmospheric and Space Physics.  After college, I worked as an engineer supporting the International Space Station for 9 years.  For the last year and a half I have been working to design and build NASAs next vehicle to get humans into space after the Shuttle retires this summer.  The Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle is called Orion.   More information on Orion at http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/constellation/orion/index.html
Helping to designing and build a human spaceflight vehicle has been a professional goal for many years.
Tell me about your experience with the shuttle launch.
I was in Florida for the second to last shuttle launch because the shuttle was carrying a payload called STORRM.  This payload is going to test some of the instruments that Orion will use for Rendezvous and Docking.  These instruments are a Docking Camera and a Laser built by Ball Aerospace in Boulder.  The instruments are meant to help the pilot to determine the relative orientation, distance and closing speed of the two vehicles as they dock.  More information on STORRM at:  HYPERLINK "http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/storrm134_feature.html" http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/shuttle/main/storrm134_feature.html
While in Florida I also worked at an outreach program to increase the public knowledge about the Orion Program.
As you know the shuttle was not launched last week and will not be launched until at least May 8 due to a faulty electronics box that is being replaced.  I do not know yet if I will be returning to Florida for the next launch attempt.
