Ready to watch something new on Netflix this weekend? Here is a list of all the best new shows and movies released on Netflix this week.

What you'll notice right away about this week's releases is that there aren't many. And none of them are shows or movies that you've actually heard of. And most of them aren't in English. And only one of them is a TV show! I guess Netflix was too busy Bandersnatching at the end of 2018 to get 2019 off to a big start.

In other words, this would be a great week to catch up on Netflix shows you wanted to watch but didn't have time to, like Atypical or Maniac. Or watch You, which is finally on Netflix.

Below I go through all the Netflix releases this week, and if you're looking for even more hand-picked recommendations, click over to our Watch This Now! page.

(All titles are out Friday, Jan. 4 unless specified otherwise.)

The Only Releases

Godzilla: The Planet Eater
Hey, you've heard of Godzilla, right? The lumbering lizard is the star of this anime from Japan's keepers of Godzilla, Toho, and is the third in a film trilogy. It looks like 'Zilla will be mixing it up with his old nemesis King Ghidora, the golden hydra who has been giving G-man the business for far too long. Also, there's a decent chance that the Earth may blow up in this. (Wednesday, Jan. 9)

Hollywood and Bollywood, BTFU! It's Nollywood time! Nigeria's exploding film industry gets its first Netflix original with Lionheart, a heartfelt comedy about a woman who takes over the family business when her father falls ill. Queen of Nollywood Genevieve Nnaji pulls double duty by starring and directing. (Trailer)

And Breathe Normally
Fresh from Icelandywood, this drama follows a single mom who helps out a woman facing deportation. It looks pretty serious. (Trailer)

El Potro: Unstoppable
You've listened to Rodrigo "El Potro" Bueno until your ears bled, but do you really know his life story? The influential and flamboyant Argentine cuarteto singer gets his life dramatized in this film, which runs through the typical highs and lows of hard-partying musicians, complete with an early death. Sorry if that bummed you out. (Trailer)

Call My Agent!, Season 3!
As a rule of thumb, all TV series titles that end in an exclamation point demand your attention immediately! This French comedy is (I think) about a family that runs a talent agency! And when you work with family, things don't always go as planned! Watch it! If you have time! (Trailer!)
