One Chicago fam, it might be time to let go of Manstead.
Chicago Med returned on Wednesday, after a month-long hiatus, with all new drama and a sweet sendoff for the beloved couple.
The episode, titled "The Space Between Us," started off with a bang -- errr, crash-- when a car smashed through the ambulance bay doors, leaving one doctor's life in peril. April rushed right into the wreckage to help her injured colleague, much to Ethan's (Brian Tee) dismay. But when April sets her mind to something, there's no changing it, and she refused to leave her co-worker's side, even if that meant endangering her own life. With the unstable car minutes away from crushing both doctors, Chicago Fire's Severide (Taylor Kinney) and Cruz (Joe Minoso) were called in for a much-needed assist.

Allowing his feelings for April to cloud his judgment, Ethan nearly forced the rescue squad to pull her out prematurely -- a move that would have cost their ailing co-worker his life. He backed down eventually, but not before April chastised him for almost losing a patient. Still, April couldn't hide her appreciation for his showcase of emotion. "Thank you for caring," she told him later on.
Elsewhere, Will (Nick Gehlfuss) and Nat (Torrey DeVitto) worked together on a tough case involving a teen with cystic fibrosis. Despite his declining health, the young patient remained hopeful that he'd receive new lungs and finally get to be in the same room with his girlfriend, who shared the same disease. But things took a turn for the worse, forcing Will and Nat to perform a life-saving operation that ultimately failed. With the possibility of a lung transplant out the window, they needed to convince his heartbroken girlfriend to take his lungs instead. Reluctant at first, she changed her mind after Will explained that the young couple would have a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be together; a moment she'll be able to hold on forever. The touching case hit close to home for Will, who reflected on his relationship with Natalie afterward.
"You and I, we have some good memories, don't we?" Will asked her. "Yes, we do." Natalie answered back with a smile.
It was a brief but sweet moment that felt like proper closure for the former couple. With Nat already moving on to Phillip Davis (Pretty Little Liars' Ian Harding), the hunky widower she first met in NICU, and Will setting his sights on his attractive new neighbor, don't expect Manstead to get back together anytime soon -- if ever. And you know what? It's probably for the best. Don't get me wrong, their romance was legendary and stands as one of One Chicago greatest ships. But they're clearly moving on from that, and it's time to do the same.
