April Kent moved to Fowler a few weeks ago, from Oregon. Her father and stepmother, Harold and Judy Wadkins live here as well as her first cousin Jan (Bushy) Wards.

“I have never lived near family and decided it was time.” said Kent.

Kent, who has a lengthy background in business, is no stranger to running a business.

Kent has owned a gift shop, floral shop, garden center, water garden (building and designing ponds) a sign and marketing company, and still owns a LED lighting company, Instalyte ( HYPERLINK "http://www.instalyte.com" www.instalyte.com.).

One of the reason she attributes her success to is customer service.

“Customers service is everything, I am so anxious to open and start meeting people and developing a bond with my clientele,” Kent said.

April’s Purple Cow will open on Wednesday with a grand opening scheduled for this Saturday beginning at 10 a.m.

New merchandise is arriving daily. Kent is busy stocking her shelves with Christmas decorations; all occasion gift cards, gift bags, toys, household items, jewelry, makeup along with many other items.

Hours of operation will be Monday- Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

With her experience in marketing, Kent has some great plans for expanding her business expertise in Fowler.

An ice cream shop will open in the spring. It will be located in the back of her store and will offer many different toppings.

Kent also plans to have a garden center in operation behind her building, selling annuals, perennials and vegtable plants.

“This is a great town and it has so many things to offer, I’m excited to be here and be a part of that,” said Kent.

“If people don’t support their community businesses, we won’t have anything here. Support your community businesses and we will return the favor,” said Kent.
