The Otero Junior College Men’s Soccer team extended their winning streak to six games last weekend.
The Rattlers began their streak with a 6-0 win over Sheridan Community College in late September. Santiago Alejandro, Ramiro Ceja, Lee Cordova, Jacob Gonzales, Alex Hastings and Jordan Seeto all scored to fuel the win for the Rattlers. On September 27, the Rattlers took on Northeastern Junior College in Sterling, where they won 5-1. Despite the cold temperatures, the Rattlers played a great game. Ceja had a spectacular performance with a hat-trick and two assists. The Rattlers completed the weekend with a 2-0 win over Western Nebraska Community College. Ceja scored both goals, finishing out the week with 8 goals and 4 assists, making him the OJC Rattler Athlete of the Week. During the first week of October, the Rattlers continued their success. The team traveled to Trinidad, where they faced the Trinidad State Junior College Trojans. The Rattlers came away with a 7-1 victory, which was the first time in the team’s history that they beat the Trojans by more than one point. The Rattlers continued their streak at home, avenging two losses from earlier in the season against #20 Laramie County Community College and Western Wyoming Community College. In the toughest game in region play this season, the Rattlers were able to come away with a 2-0 victory over the nationally-ranked Laramie County Community College team. Goals were scored by Alejandro and Zach Leon. The Rattlers finished the weekend with a 4-0 win over Western Wyoming Community College. Alejandro scored two of the goals and Seeto and Ceja each contributed one. Rattlers’ goalkeeper, Jose Aguilar, began his season against Northeastern Junior College, racking up four shutouts and allowing only one goal to be scored against him this season. Two Rattler team members have gained raking in the Region. Ramiro Ceja became #1 points leader, with 15 goals and 9 assists. Following closely behind is Santiago Alejandro as third-ranked points leader in the Region with 7 goals and 2 assists. “I’m happy that we’ve found our stride.
