Local high school sports game official Dennis Smith was inducted into the Colorado Officials Hall of Fame Last Saturday at the Kent Denver Dining Hall.

Smith has been a sports official since 1975 beginning with high basketball. He began officiating football in 1976, baseball in 1980 and softball in 1990. He has also worked junior college basketball and baseball.

His career experience includes three football state championship games, three baseball championships, 14 state basketball tournaments, three ASA softball national tournaments, two Babe Ruth Baseball World Series and five high school softball championships.

Smith is also a member of the Otero County Board of Supervisors, having been first elected in 1978. He was elected to his 10th term last month.

Other inductees incluse Mike Bullen of Grand Junction, Jim King of Colorado Springs, Tim Schlenvogt of Denver, Don Stengel of Denver and Jim Vorwald of Durango.
