The Santa Fe All-Stars, based out of Rocky Ford, got off to a big lead in the Babe Ruth 12u State Tournament championship game against the Southeast Denver Centennials and they never looked back as Santa Fe went on to win 11-1 Sunday at Veterans Field.

Santa Fe scored five runs in the bottom of the first. Robyn Wallace started the run with a single and she then stole second. Tegan Mendoza-Werner's fly ball grazed off an outfielder's glove allowing Wallace to score.

Daisy Medina also got on base on an outfielder's miscue and Mendoza-Werner scored on the play. Laney Nelson was also safe on an error and Medina came home on the play.

Jayden Osborne drew a walk and Jaiciana Pettie singled home Nelson for a 5-0 advantage.

Santa Fe put two more runs on the board in the third. Medina was safe on an error and she scored on Nelson's double. Alisha Jaramillo also got on base on an error and Nelson came home on the play.

Southeast Denver scored its only run in the top of the fourth. Hannah Davidson singled and then stole second and third. After Jade Iginla was hit by a pitch, Audrey Willius singled home Davidson to put the deficit at 7-1.
Santa Fe put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the fourth.
 
Niquole Knapp led off with a single and she stole second. Alexis Fernandez walked and Knapp scored on an error for an 8-1 lead.

Wallace singled and Medina was safe on a fielder's choice which drove home Fernandez. Wallace scored on a wild pitch for Santa Fe's 10th run of the game.

Nelson was intentionally walked and Jaramillo's bunt single loaded the bases. Pettie singled to score Medina to end the game on the 10-run rule.
Fernandez went the distance as Santa Fe's pitcher. She allowed one run and four hits and she struck out one, walked three and hit one batter.

Katie Cummings was Southeast Denver's starting pitcher. She was relieved by Grace Lund in the second and returned to the circle in the fourth. Cummings surrendered nine runs and six hits and she struck out one and walked three. Lund gave up two runs and one hit with one strikeout and one walk.

Santa Fe had seven hits and it was led on offense by Wallace, who went 2-3 and Pettie, who went 2-3 with two RBIs.

Southeast Denver was limited to four hits with Lund, Kylee Snyder, Davidson and Willius each collecting a single.

Santa Fe advanced to the finals by winning all of its games. In pool play, it defeated Southern Plains 11-1 on Thursday and it scored a 13-7 win over Parker on Friday. Santa Fe defeated East Central in the semifinals 16-7 on Sunday.

Santa Fe and Southeast Denver will both advance to the Midwest Plains Region tournament in Pitosi, Missouri. The tournament begins Thursday and ends on Sunday.

La Junta update

The La Junta Lady Tigers had a rough time at the tournament. On Thursday, they lost to East Central 15-3, on Friday, they were defeated by Southeast Denver 20-8 and on Saturday, they lost to Parker 18-12.
