The 10th Annual Hospice Softball Tournament took place Saturday and Sunday at Veterans Field and at the old bomb plot at the old air base.

The men's championship was won by The Crew, a team of players from around the area. It defeated the May Valley Mafia from Lamar 21-20 in the final Sunday at Veterans Field.

The Crew made a valiant comeback in the championship game. It trailed 20-4 after 3 1/2 innings of play, but it scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth to get back into the contest.

The Crew then scored five runs in the fifth to close to within a 20-19 deficit and it scored twice in the sixth to take the win.

The Crew went undefeated in the tournament and it started the competition with a win over the Ball Busters. It then defeated two-time defending champion, The Krush, in the second round.

The Crew also defeated Beer Pressure from Lamar. Beer Pressure finished third in the tournament.

Another team from the Lamar area, the Superheroes in Training, won the coed division over The Crew's coed team. The Superheroes in Training trailed 18-17 going into the final inning, and it scored six times in the seventh. The Crew scored once in the bottom of the seventh, but it was not enough as the Superheros in Training won 23-19.

The Superheroes also defeated The Crew in the first round. They also defeated Red Dog and First Impressions, before losing to The Crew to set up a final game for the title.

It was the Superheroes in Training's second straight coed title.

First Impressions was the third place team.
