As much as FSD would have enjoyed having Hochevar in their home gym last week, Skyping with former Grizzly Luke Hochevar was still amazing. Hochevar attributed much of his success to growing up in the Fowler community and Fowler Schools. He continued to talk to students about making the right choice and that every day they have the choice to wake up and make the decision that will lead them closer to their dream, or go back to bed. He encouraged them to "dream big" and make the hard choice to do the right thing.

Hochevar also talked about being injured during the 2014 World Series, when the Kansas City Royals fell short of the crown, and how working to get better and better every day was his goal in helping his team "take the crown" this year. "How you handle yourself during the bad times, defines the person you will become," said Hochevar.

The 2015 World Series Champions had one motto this year "Nothing is mandatory." Hochevar told the crowd that that is what drove him and his team this year to the crown. "We went to the field every day knowing that nothing was mandatory, that we had a choice. We could choose to work hard and do whatever it took to reach our goal, or we could slack off and be lazy. Each day our team made the choice to work hard toward our goal." He continued to challenge each person in the gym to adopt that motto in the classroom, on the field, or in whatever they choose to do. He left the Grizzlies with one more thing. To "dream big!"

Students asked questions that Hochevar gladly answered. Including the fact that his favorite teacher at FHS was Mrs. Destiny Lotrich. The Grizzly Band of Pride played the FHS Fight Song for Hochevar.

The Fowler School District and Fowler community is very fortunate to have a hometown hero like Luke Hochevar. Congratulations, Luke, on being a 2015 World Series Champion!
