It will be an active weekend for the local high school winter sports programs this weekend before they go on their respective holiday breaks.
The La Junta High School girls' basketball team will travel to Florence on Thursday with the first game scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
The LJHS boys' team will play at Florence in Friday. Basketball is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
The Tiger boys will conclude the calendar year on Saturday as they will host Alamosa with the C team game beginning at noon.
Swink High School's boys and girls basketball teams will both have two games this weekend. On Friday, the Lions and Lady Lions will travel to Pueblo West to face Swallows Charter Academy beginning at 4 p.m. On Saturday, they will host Rye starting at 2 p.m.
The Cheraw High School basketball teams will host South Baca on Friday. The first game begins at 4 p.m.
The Rocky Ford High School basketball teams will have two home games this weekend. On Friday, the Meloneers and Lady Meloneers will host Fowler beginning at 5 p.m. and on Saturday, they will host Hoehne beginning at 2 p.m.
Fowler High School's basketball teams will play twice this weekend. On Friday, the Grizzlies and Lady Grizzlies will travel to Rocky Ford with the first game scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. On Saturday, they will host Crowley County beginning at 2 p.m.
The Manzanola High School basketball teams will travel to Cotopaxi on Thursday. Basketball action begins at 4:30 p.m.
Las Animas High School's basketball teams will host Hoehne Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. On Friday, the Trojans and Lady Trojans will travel to Crowley County with the first game to begin at 4 p.m.
McClave High School will participate in the 52nd Annual Lamar Chamber of Commerce Holiday Tournament beginning on Thursday at the Lamar Community Building.
The Cardinal boys' basketball team will open with Kit Carson at 4 p.m. on Thursday. The Cardinals will play either Walsh or Granada in the second round on Friday. A win on Thursday will have the Cardinals playing at 8:30 p.m. A loss will have them playing at 1:30 p.m.
On the other side of the bracket are Springfield, Holly, Eads and Wiley.
The Lady Cardinals will begin the tournament against Granada at 9 a.m. on Thursday. In the next round, they will face either Eads or Holly. If McClave wins on Thursday, they will play at 4 p.m. on Friday. A loss will have them playing at 9 a.m. on Friday.
The other side of the bracket has Kit Carson, Wiley, Walsh and Springfield.
The Crowley County High School basketball teams will play two games this weekend. The Chargers and Lady Chargers will host Las Animas Friday beginning at 4 p.m. and on Saturday, they will travel to Fowler with the first game to begin at 2 p.m.
Kim High School will host Primero on Thursday with basketball action to begin at 3 p.m. On Saturday, the Mustangs and Lady Mustangs will travel to Sierra Grande with the first game scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
The La Junta High School wrestling team will host a dual meet with Florence on Thursday. The first match begins at 6 p.m.
Rocky Ford will host a dual meet with Burlington on Thursday with wrestling to begin at 6 p.m.
Swink High School will participate in a series of dual meets at John Mall on Friday.
Crowley County will be in Nebraska on Friday for a dual meet with Imperial.
The local wrestling teams will compete at several different tournaments on Saturday. Fowler, Las Animas, Manzanola and Swink will be at the Pete and Ina Gomez Invitational at Walsenburg; La Junta will be at the Sheridan Invitational; Rocky Ford will be at the Brush Invitational; McClave will be at the Holly Invitational and Crowley County will be at the Wray Invitational.
LJHS girls' swimming and diving
La Junta High School's girls' swimming and diving team will participate in the Cheyenne Mountain Invitational. The tournament begins on Friday and ends on Saturday.
