The First Presbyterian Church of La Junta is pleased to announce the winners of our first-ever “Hope, Joy, Peace and Love: The Themes of Advent” Art Show on Dec. 13. The church received 38 entries from 23 local artists.

In the Adult Category, Char Hosea’s “Joy Angel Painting” received Best in Show, with “Love” by Brianne Bradfield MacRunnel receiving both the Honorable Mention and People’s Choice awards.

In the Youth Category, Best in Show and People’s Choice went to Ryan Jones’ “Fruits of the Spirit,” with Honorable Mention to “Sacred Heart” by Justice Medina.

In the Children’s Category, “Angel” by Charly Jones received Best in Show, “The Three Kings of the Orient” by Teagan Summers received Honorable Mention, and Wyatt Jones’ “The Beauty of 11 Mile Canyon” received the People’s Choice award.

All winners received gift certificates to local businesses.

The purpose of the art show was to offer a visual means of expressing God’s love in Jesus Christ in these seasons of Advent and Christmas. The church was overwhelmed by the community’s response, and conversations are already underway about next year’s show.

Church leaders wish to extend a special thank you to our two judges, Toni Cook and Jacob King, as well as Marianne Hale for her assistance in organizing the show. Thrivent Financial provided financial support for the prizes and advertising. Others who assisted were Dennis Golding, Kathy Parker, Dottie Burnett, Don Klinkerman, Joey Gacnik, Karen Gacnik, and Gloria Thomas. Most of all, we thank the artists who blessed us with their considerable talents.
