A motion to continue the murder trial of former Rocky Ford policeman James Ashby was filed by the defense and granted Monday.


In a telephone conference held yesterday (Monday, Jan. 4) in the courtroom of Chief District Judge Mark MacDonnell, a new trial date of June 7, 2016, was tentatively set.


Ashby has been charged in the death of Jack Jacquez Jr. on Oct. 12, 2014, in Rocky Ford.


 Ashby’s trial, for which over 400 juror summons had been sent, was scheduled to begin Jan. 11, 2016.
