The Fowler track and field team started off their spring season with the La Junta Open. The Grizzlies had several boys and girls place in the top 10 in several events. Returning state qualifiers Kassidy Lotrich and Garett Gribble set the tone for the fast track to the state meet, with Lotrich placing 5th in the discus with a throw of 98’ 7” and Gribble placing 7th in discus with a throw of 120’ 5” and a 2nd place in shot put throwing 47’ 6”. Freshman Jaquelin Alvey made a mark on her competition placing 6th in the mile with a personal record of 6:32, and taking 8th place in the 400 meter dash. Junior Emily Aragon searches for a state time with her 5th place win in the 2 mile. Sophomores Brand Sharp and Canaan Geringer both placed in the 110 meter hurdles, Brand taking 2nd and Geringer sweeping 7th. Rounding off the individual events, Senior Kai Geringer placed 9th in the shot put with a throw of 36 feet. The Fowler relay teams also did very well at the La Junta Open. The girls medley team placed 6th overall with a time of 2:05. The boys’ 4x100 meter relay team placed 7th with a time of 49.5 seconds, and their 4x200 meter relay team placed 7th as well with a time of 1:42. Overall the Fowler girls placed 15th and the boys placed 14th.
The Grizzlies will spring their way to their next meet in Pueblo County on Saturday, April 2.
