A body was discovered in the Arkansas River by the North La Junta bridge Sunday morning.

A body was discovered in the Arkansas River by the North La Junta bridge Sunday morning.

The identity of the man is not yet available pending notification of next of kin.

Just after 7 a.m. on Sunday morning, Nov. 20, the Otero County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call from a citizen in the area about a deceased male, unresponsive in the river, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation which was called in to assist the Otero County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation. The location of the man was near La Junta at Colorado State Highways 109 and 50.

The El Paso County Coroner’s office will conduct the autopsy to determine the cause of death.
