On Tuesday, County Administrator Jean Hinkle said the Otero County Commissioners have decided to include $50,000 from the Conservation Trust Fund in the 2017 budget to allay the expenses of needed improvements to four La Junta baseball fields. They are the 22nd Street Field, Tippy Martinez Field, Potter Park Field and the Veterans Field. This arrangement is in cooperation with the request made by Jeff Paolucci of Otero Junior College and Superintendent Rick Lovato Jr. of La Junta Public Schools.

As previously reported, other contributors to the project are Otero Junior College, $10,000; City of La Junta, $30,000; and La Junta School District, $10,000 toward the $100,000 project. In addition to dugout roofs, outfield fencing, padding on backstops previously mentioned, there will be a sun shade for the bleachers at Tippy Martinez Field.
