Sandy Summers, nurse practitioner, retired from her full-time practice in Lamar to join Ryon Medical on a part-time basis. She is now accepting patients two days a week, and she may cap it at that, or go to three days a week. She has a focus on family medicine, diabetes and women's health. She has a special interest in treating diabetes, which, along with obesity, is a major problem in this area. She joins Nurse Practitioner Kevin Harsh, lead physician, who specializes in psychiatric medicine.

Summers holds a Doctorate of Nursing Practice the University of Colorado. She is past president of the Colorado Board of Nursing, has 30 years of healthcare experience and is a native of Southeast Colorado. She is accepting patients at Ryon Medical; call 719-384-0303.

Almost the entire Summers family is engaged in the medical profession. Summers' husband, Ron, is a full-time registered nurse in Holly. They live in Wiley, just north of Lamar, where Sandy grew up. They have three grown children. Jeremy is a registered nurse and manager of the Bent County Nursing Home. Daughter Sarah is a home health nurse. Son Jerrod has an automotive shop in Springfield, where he diagnoses automobiles, not people, laughed Susan. Susan and Ron are the proud grandparents of nine, four from Jeremy's family, two from Sarah's, and three from Jerrod's.
