An 18-year-old Fowler woman was seriously injured in a single car accident Sunday morning east of Manzanola.

Gabriella Leone, 18, of Fowler was flown Flight for Life with life-threatening injuries.

According to Colorado State Patrol, around 8 a.m. Sunday, June 18, Leone was westbound on Colorado 50 about two miles east of Manzanola approaching Otero County Road 13. The Jeep Wrangler Leone was driving crossed both eastbound lanes of Colorado 50 and went off the left side of the roadway, where it struck a utility pole which caused the Jeep to rotate counter-clockwise. The Jeep became broadside and began to roll. It rolled three times and impacted a large pile of gravel. After impact, the Jeep rolled an additional one-and-one-quarter times, coming to rest on its side on top of the gravel pile.

Excessive speed, alcohol and drugs do not appear to have played a role in the crash, according to CSP. Leone was restrained at the time of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
