HOEHNE — The Fowler High School volleyball team entered the Class 2A District 6 Tournament as the third seed. However, the Lady Grizzlies won all three of their matches to win the district championship.
Fowler opened the tournament by defeating Swink in four sets. The Lady Lions won the first set 25-23, but the Lady Grizzlies swept the final three sets 25-19, 25-17 and 25-20.
Hoehne, the top seed and tournament host, swept John Mall in the second match 25-20, 25-21, 25-21.
Swink then faced John Mall in the third match of the day and the Lady Lions won in five sets. Swink won the first set 25-20, but the Lady Panthers took the next two 25-23 and 25-19. Swink won the final two sets by scores of 25-21 and 17-15.
Fowler clinched the championship by defeating Hoehne in five sets. The Lady Grizzlies won the first set 25-18, but the Lady Farmers took the next two 25-19 and 25-18. Fowler won the last two sets 25-19 and 15-13.
Since Fowler had won the championship and John Mall was locked in fourth, the match between the Lady Grizzlies and Lady Panthers was a best-of-three format. John Mall won the first set 25-13, but Fowler won the final two 25-20 and 25-20.
Swink and Hoehne wrapped up the tournament and it was for second and third place. The Lady Farmers won the first two sets 25-19 and 25-15, but the Lady Lions won the third 25-16. Hoehne won the fourth set 25-14.
Fowler to host Region A Tournament
By winning the District 6 championship, Fowler (18-5) won the right to host the Class 2A Region A Tournament on Friday. Swink (17-5) will also play in the tournament.
The first match begins at 11 a.m. with the Lady Grizzlies hosting the Lady Lions. Swink will face Del Norte in the second match and Fowler will host Del Norte in the third match.
The champion of all eight regions will automatically qualify for the Class 2A State Tournament which will be Nov. 10-11 at the Denver Coliseum. Four wild cards based on ratings percentage index will also qualify.
