SANFORD — The County Line Rivals, a co-op team wrestling team featuring competitors from McClave, Wiley, and Eads high schools, won the Class 2A Region 2 Tournament championship this past weekend at Sanford High School's gym.
The Rivals qualified seven wrestlers for state and they had four individual champions in Trevor Randel (152), Jaime Ibarra (170), Jayce Bauer (220), and Ken Cox (285). Dawson Roesch (182) was also a finalist and he placed second.
Aiden Michael was third at 132 and Sam Wollert (138) was fourth. A.J. Wilk had to go to a wrestle-back, but he was defeated,
Cade Zordel (145) and A.J. Wilk (160) were fifth and did not qualify for state. Tate Krentz (106) did not place.
Fowler took third place and it qualified 10 wrestlers for state. Two Grizzlies were champions in Tyson Martinez (182) and Dahlton McGhee (195). Fowler had three more finalists who finished in second place in Seth McFall (106), Dylan Palomino (145) and Chantz Lange (152). Seth Damgaard (170) and J.J. Horn (220) were both third.
The Grizzlies had four wrestlers compete in wrestle-backs. Fernando Salazar (113), Thomas Goeritz (160), and Tyler Mullins (285) were all successful, while David Salazar (138) was unsuccessful.
Antonio Aragon (132) did not place.
The Class 2A State Meet takes place this week at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
