Otero County Commissioners had a busy meeting on Monday.

The Otero County Commissioners had visitors today - other than the usual visitors, Candidates for District 2, Michelle Gardner and John Hostetler. They were representatives from the office of Sen. Michael Bennet, Dwight Gardner and John Griego, as well as Veterans Service Officer Jay Scott. Gardner and Griego were talking with veterans today. They had 10 to 12 at the Rocky Ford meeting Monday morning, met with La Junta veterans on Monday afternoon, and then went on to Lamar, Kit Carson, and Limon. Gardner said he had heard nothing but good about Scott from the veterans.

The commissioners signed the contract with Arc Valley Construction for remodel of the clerk’s office in the amount of $134,344. The I & A Company, which will do the moving of the clerk’s office materials over to the temporary office at 207 Colorado, was signed for $1,300: $650 for going, $650 for coming back. The women in the clerk’s office packed their boxes with a color of paper they chose themselves. Sisnroy chose chartreuse.

A group with Mark Bartolo, which included Michelle Gardner, reported on a trip to Spain to observe their greenhouses, which line their beaches. The commissioners request that the Bureau of Reclamation stay in touch with the Otero County Historic Preservation Advisory Board during the course of the construction of the Arkansas Valley Conduit, because the Board cannot be sure all historic structures or remains in the area have been found.

The OCC will provide $6,255 for the year to support continuing programming thtough the Revion VI Lower Arkansas Valley Area Agency on Aging. Otero County wishes to appoint Donna Lucero to represent Bent County on the Community Services Block Grant Advisory Board.

The Otero County Clerk and Recorder’s office will be closed on Friday, Feb 16, to move to their temporary location of 207 Colorado Ave. Otero County Offices, Landfills, Courts, Probation, and Driver’s License Offices will be closed on Monday, Feb 19 for President’s Day. The Otero County Board of Commissioners will hold the public hearing on Tuesday, Feb 20 at 1:30 p.m. in Room 107 of the Otero County Courthouse
