Lamar High School's baseball team, the top-ranked team in Class 3A, showed why it is ranked so high as the Savages won the Fowler/Rocky Ford Invitational, which took place this past weekend at Grizzly Field in Fowler and at Babcock Park in Rocky Ford.

The Savages won both of its games in pool play Friday at Rocky Ford. First, Lamar defeated Rocky Ford 18-4 and then it defeated Holly 12-2. Holly is the top-ranked team in Class 1A.

Lamar then defeated Limon 12-1 in the championship game Saturday at Babcock Park.

Limon won its pool, which took place Friday at Fowler. The Badgers got a pair of shutout wins as they defeated Fowler 13-0 and Monte Vista 20-0.

Rocky Ford and Fowler met in the third-place game, which occurred Saturday at Babcock Park. The Meloneers defeated the Grizzlies 11-1.

In addition to its pool play loss to Lamar, Rocky Ford defeated Holly 12-9. Fowler completed its pool play with a 12-7 win over Monte Vista.

In the fifth place game, Holly defeated Monte Vista 13-3 Saturday at Babcock Park.

Rocky Ford (2-1) will next play on March 28 as it will host La Junta. Game time is at 4 p.m. at Babcock Park.

Fowler (1-2) will play John Mall in Walsenburg on Friday. It will be a doubleheader and the first game will begin at 10 a.m.
