American Legion Post 168 (Manzanola and Fowler) held their monthly meeting on April 4, where they held their election of officers.

The 2018-2019 officers for American Legion Post 168 are: Post Commander Kevin Bosley, Post Adjutant Jody Bracy, Senior Vice Commander Jim Crawford, Junior Vice Commander Alan Sheldon, Finance Officer John Pollmiller, Chaplain Bill Chambers, Historian Bob Lovisone, Sergeant-At-Arms Joseph Traynor, and Service Officer Jerry Stover.

Committee Chairs for Post 168 are: Boy Scouts, Kevin Bosley; Oratorical, Alan Sheldon; Children and Youth, Jody Bracy; Americanism, John Pollmiller; Boys State, Alan Sheldon; and Membership, Jim Crawford.

Instillation of officers will take place on May 2 at the monthly meeting.

Beginning in August the American Legion Post 168 meetings will be held on the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. The July monthly meeting will be held on the second Tuesday of the month.

Plans were finalized for the dedication of American Legion Post 168 and adding the name of SSG Justin Vasquez’s name to the Post. The public is cordially invited to attend the dedication. It will be held on April 21 at 11 a.m. at the Manzanola High School Gym. American Legion Post 8 (Rocky Ford) will be providing the Color Guard for this event.

American Legion District 1 will be holding their Spring Conference at the Manzanola Senior Center on April 21 at the Manzanola Senior Center starting at 1 p.m. Representatives will be on hand for anyone wishing to join the American Legion, American Legion Auxiliary, or Sons of the American Legion.

Members of American Legion Riders Post 168 are selling raffle tickets for a 2013 Harley Davidson Softtail Classic motorcycle. Proceeds benefit the American Legion Department of Colorado Veterans Assistance Fund. Tickets are $20 each. The drawing will be held June 23 at the Hotel Elegante in Colorado Springs at the State Convention. You need not be present to win.

The deadline for submitting Boys State and Girls State applications is quickly approaching. Boys State and Girls State is open to any high school junior heading into their senior year of high school. Applications for Boys State can be found at and Girls State applications can be found at www.alacolorado.girls-state.html. Boys State and Girls State is a weeklong educational experience that teaches participants how government works at local, state, and federal levels.

American Legion Riders Post 168 will be holding their Bike Inspection Day on May 5 at 10 a.m. at the Manzanola Senior Center. The public is invited to attend this event. A courtesy motorcycle safety inspection will be performed for anyone who wishes to attend.
