I would like to THANK all of the donors who contributed and assisted the district’s replacement of the floor in the Fowler High School gym! The project was a huge success. It was completed on time and within budget, and the result is something the whole community can be proud of!
Another part of the Committee’s work, Phase II, had intended to separate the FHS Wrestling Room and Weight Room, to allow simultaneous use rather than sharing space. Over the years, these have shared space or used the stage in the High School Gym. Weight equipment and wrestling mats have been moved in and out of the room, on and off of the stage, etc.
Throughout the school year, the School Board, staff, and community members have engaged in discussions surrounding this project. After a great deal of thought, research, and discussion, the School Board decided the District needed a Master Plan to provide guidance regarding all of the district’s facilities before expending any of the Phase II donations.
In the interim, the district will improve the existing Wrestling Room to increase and ensure student safety and maximize the use of available space. The weight equipment will remain on the stage and be moved as necessary. No money raised by the Capital Improvements Committee will be spent on these improvements.
The Master Plan will be produced through a team effort involving administration, staff, students, community members, and professional consultants and will consist of a thorough assessment of all of the district’s facilities including: safety of students and staff, facility condition, educational suitability, energy performance, and utilization. The Plan will also examine the district’s demographics, operation costs, educational programs, and athletics.
Following the assessment, an identification of strengths, weaknesses, needs, and deficiencies will be identified. The Plan will also identify options for addressing the items identified including costs, funding opportunities, existing resources, etc. The Plan will be a dynamic document that will be maintained and updated in order to provide both short-term and long-term facilities guidance for the Board, administration, and community.
Once the Master Plan has been developed, the District will be able to meet the original objectives of Phase II, by making the most efficient use of the Capital Improvement Committee’s funds.
