Rocky Ford Recreation is hosting a one-day Pitch, Hit and Run competition for both girls and boys ages 7-14. This free event will take place Sunday from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Babcock Park.
Pitch, Hit and Run is an official skills competition for girls' softball and boys' baseball and is sponsored by Major League Baseball.
The Pitch portion of the program tests accuracy in the competitor's attempt at throwing strikes. The Hit portion will test the competitor's ability to hit off a batting tee to straightaway center field. The Run portion will measure the competitor's speed in a sprint from a starting line, touching third base and home plate for a complete distance of 120 feet.
Winners in each age division will be eligible to compete in a sectional competition on May 19 at the Thornton Sports Complex, Field 1, 10370 McKay Road, Thornton, Colorado, at 9 a.m. Winners of the sectional competition go on to compete for the Team Championships and National Finals during the MLB All-Star week of July 14-17.

You can also register the day of the event at Babcock Park, but you must have a copy of your child's birth certificate to verify age, Competitors do not need to live in Rocky Ford to be eligible to participate in the free event.
Sunday is also Mother's Day. Rocky Ford Recreation will be running a concession stand. There will be a Mother's Day Special offered for all the moms out there with a child competing in the event.
