The La Junta and Rocky Ford high school softball teams learned where they will compete in regional play this weekend. The brackets were posted on the web site on Monday.

La Junta will head to Eaton for the Region 2 Tournament. The Lady Tigers (9-14) enter as the No. 18 overall seed and they will play 15th-seeded Basalt (9-9) in the first round Saturday at 10 a.m.

The winner of that game will play Eaton, the second seed, at 12:15 p.m.

Rocky Ford will host the Region 6 Tournament Saturday at Babcock Park. The Lady Meloneers (16-6) are the sixth seed and they will receive a first-round bye. Brush (13-10), the 11th seed, will play 22nd-seeded Holyoke at 10 a.m. with the winner to play Rocky Ford at 12:15 p.m.

Lamar will also host a regional as it will the Region 7 Tournament at Citizens Park. The Lady Savages (16-7) are the seventh seed and they too will earn a first-round bye. The Academy (18-3), the 10th seed, will play Valley (7-16) the 23rd seed in the first game at 10 a.m. with the winning team to play Lamar at 12:15 p.m.

Another Tri-Peaks League team, St. Mary's (17-6), is seeded 13th and it will play in the Region 4 Tournament in Greeley. The Lady Pirates will play 20th-seeded Burlington (9-14) in the first round with the winner to play fourth-seeded University (18-5) at 12:15 p.m.

The remaining regionals include Strasburg (17-5) hosting Region 1 with Sterling (11-11-1) and Riverdale Ridge (11-8) playing in the first game. Region 3 will be at Delta (19-2) with Montezuma-Cortez (12-8) and Peak to Peak (13-10) playing first.

Region 5 will be hosted by Faith Christian (18-5) in Arvada with Fort Lupton (14-8) and Cedaredge (8-13) playing in the first game. Region 8 will play played at Limon (15-8) with Meeker (13-9) playing Sheridan (9-13) in the first game.

Tournament format

The second- and third-seeded teams in each region will play in the first game. The first seed receives a first-round bye.

The winner of the first game will play the top seed. The loser of the first game will have to wait to see if it will play again.

Should the winner of the first game defeat the top seed, the the loser of the first game and the loser of the second game will play at 2:30 p.m.

The top two teams from each region will advance to the Class 3A State Tournament, which will take place Oct. 19-20 in Aurora.

Weather contingencies

With rain in the forecast for several parts of Colorado on Saturday, some of the regional tournaments may be moved to Friday.

Any change in the schedule will be published when such a contingency is announced.
