The season came to an end for the Otero Junior College women's soccer team as it lost to Gillette (Wyo.) College 1-0 in the first round of the National Junior College Athletic Association Region IX Tournament Saturday at Tiger Stadium.
"It's definitely not the way we pictured the way the season to end," said OJC coach Kevin Hurtado. "Sometimes, that's the game."
The only goal of the game came in the 23rd minute as Kelsey Hogan's shot bounced off of the right goal post and rolled into the net. Alyssa Umphlett was credited with the assist.
"Unfortunately this season, there have been a lot of those type of goals," Hurtado said. "Sometimes, luck plays a factor."

The Lady Pronghorns outshot the Lady Rattlers 8-6.
Otero ends the season with seven wins and six losses.
"I'm still proud of the girls and everything we've done this year," Hurtado said. "We know we started off rough and we were 3-5 at one point. Then we pull a good winning streak and that led us up to this moment. Unfortunately, it wasn't good enough, but you have to move on forward."
OJC men's soccer team loses in overtime
SHERIDAN, Wyo. — The season also ended for the Otero Junior College men's soccer team as it lost to Sheridan (Wyo.) College 3-2 in overtime in the first round of the NJCAA Region IX Tournament at Maier Field.
OJC took a 1-0 lead in the 14th minute as Diego Garrido scored off an Arturo Chairez assist. The Rattlers extended the lead to 2-0 in the 50th minute with a Emiliano Cardona scoring with Sebastian Garcia getting credit with the assist.
The Generals began a comeback 10 minutes later. Nicolas Parris cut the deficit to 2-1 with an unassisted goal. Sheridan tied the score in the 63rd minute off a Keino Davids unassisted goal.
Nobody scored for the rest of the second half and the game went into overtime.
Sheridan won the game in the 98th minute on a Weston Short goal off a Triston Austin assist.
Petar Pesic was in goal for the Rattlers and he had two saves.
The Rattlers finish the season with six wins, eight losses and a tie.
