The Colorado High School Activities Association released its regional volleyball brackets, and six local teams will be in action this weekend.
La Junta High School's volleyball team will travel to Greeley to take part in the Region 3 Tournament on Friday.
University, the host team, will play KIPP Denver Collegiate in the first match. La Junta will play KIPP Denver Collegiate in the second match and the Lady Tigers will then play University in the final match.
Five other Tri-Peaks League teams are also in regional tournament.
Manitou Springs will host the Region 5 Tournament. They Lady Mustangs will play SkyView Academy and Sterling.
Salida will travel to Gilcrest for the Region 6 Tournament. The Lady Spartans will play Aspen and Valley, the host team.
Colorado Springs Christian will host the Region 7 Tournament. The Lady Lions' opponents include Delta and Centauri.
Lamar will travel to Arvada for the Region 8 Tournament. The Lady Savages will play Liberty Common and Faith Christian, the host team.
St. Mary's will be in Bennett for the Region 12 Tournament. The Lady Pirates' opponents are Bishop Machebeuf and host team Bennett.
Four local teams will be in action in Class 2A play.
Swink will be the host team for the Region 5 Tournament. The Lady Lions will first play Wray. Sanford will play Wray in the next match and Swink wraps up the tournament with Sanford.
Crowley County will be in the Region 1 Tournament, which will be played in Yuma. The Lady Chargers' first opponent is host team Yuma and they will play Peyton in the second match. Yuma and Peyton will play in the nightcap.
Rocky Ford is in the Region 6 Tournament, which will take place in Del Norte. The Lady Meloneers will play Del Norte in the first match and they will face Dolores in the second match. Del Norte will play Dolores in the final match of the day.
Fowler will be in the Region 11 Tournament, at Highland High School in Ault. The Lady Grizzlies will play Highland in the first match and face Byers in the second match. Ault and Byers will be in the final match.
Four other Santa Fe League teams are also in the regionals.
Rye will host the Region 7 Tournament, which will be played on Saturday. The Lady Thunderbolts will play Dayspring Christian first, followed by Dayspring Christian taking on Akron. Rye will play Akron in the final match.
John Mall will travel to Simla for the Region 9 Tournament. The Lady Panthers will play Simla in the first match and then they will play Limon in the second match. Simla and Akron will be in the third match.
Hoehne will host the Region 10 Tournament. The Lady Farmers will first play Plateau Valley, followed by Plateau Valley playing Lyons. Hoehne will face Lyons in the third match.
Holly will be in Greeley for the Region 12 Tournament. Union Colony, the host team, will face Colorado Springs School. The Lady Wildcats will play Colorado Springs School in the second match and will take on Union Colony in the final match.
McClave is the only Class 1A school to qualify for a regional tournament, and it will play in the Region F Tournament at the Lamar Community College Wellness Center on Friday. The first match is between Springfield and South Baca, followed by the Lady Cardinals taking on South Baca and they will play Springfield.
Three other teams from Southeastern Colorado will play in the Region B Tournament, which will also be played Friday at the LCC Wellness Center. In the match, Kit Carson will play Eads, followed by Eads playing Walsh and then Kit Carson will face Walsh.
La Veta will host the Region A Tournament on Saturday, and the Lady Redskins will play Cotopaxi and DeBeque.
Other dates and match times will be published for the local teams when they become available.
The top team from each of the 12 regions will advance to their respective state tournaments, which will take place Nov. 8-10 at the Denver Coliseum.
There will be a new format to the state tournaments this season. Instead of playing in four pools, it will instead be a 12-team double-elimination bracket.
