The Fowler High School girls' basketball team won one of its first three Santa Fe League games. The SFL season began in late December.

Rye 46, Fowler 28

Fowler opened the league season by losing to Rye 46-28 on Dec. 21 in Rye.

The Lady Grizzlies trailed 8-6 after the first quarter, but the Lady Thunderbolts outscored Fowler 12-6 in the second quarter to take a 20-12 lead at halftime.

Rye began to pull away in the second half. It led 32-17 in the third quarter, and the Lady Thunderbolts outscored the Lady Grizzlies 14-11 in the fourth quarter.

Individual statistics for the Lady Grizzlies were unavailable.

Fowler 62, John Mall 16

The Lady Grizzlies scored their first league win as they defeated John Mall 62-16 on Dec. 22 at Grizzly Gym.

Fowler led 13-2 after the first quarter, and it scored 29 points in the second quarter to lead 42-7 at halftime. The Lady Grizzlies scored 16 more points in the third and they held the Lady Panthers scoreless to take a 58-7 lead at the end of the period.

Four Lady Grizzlies scored in double figures. Jacquelin Alvey and Kaley Pieper both scored 14 points and Bella Devore scored 12.

Holly 44, Fowler 32

Fowler opened the new year by losing to Holly 44-32, Saturday at Holly.

Lady Grizzlies play two home games this week

Fowler (2-7, 1-3) will play two home games this week. On Friday, the Lady Grizzlies will host Swallows Charter Academy with the first game scheduled for 4 p.m. On Saturday, they will host Rocky Ford, with basketball action slated to begin at noon.
