The Fowler High School wrestling team had a fourth-place finish at the Santa Fe League Tournament, which took place Dec. 22 at Crowley County High School.

One Grizzly was an individual champion as J.J. Horn won at 220 pounds. He pinned Rocky Ford's Angel Estrada in 45 seconds in the championship match.

Fowler had another finalist as Seth McFall was second at 120 pounds.

Also placing for the Grizzlies were Fernando Salazar, who was fourth at 113; Cutler Hampton, who was fourth at 126; Orin Carnes, who was fourth at 160; and Ashton Cash, who was sixth at 138.

Rocky Ford won the tournament with 150 points. John Mall was second with 102, Crowley County was third with 90 1/2 and Fowler scored 50.

Rounding out the scoring were Holly with 47, Rye with 42, Swink with 37 and Las Animas with 34.

Colt 'Bobby Hawk' Classic

The Grizzlies resumed their season Saturday as they participated in the Colt "Bobby Hawk" Classic at Pueblo South High School.

Only one Fowler wrestler placed, as McFall took second place at 113 pounds.

Fowler finished in 16th place with 32 points.

Three Grizzlies in latest On the Mat rankings

Three Fowler wrestlers were included in the most recent On the Mat rankings, which were released by Tim Yount Friday.

McFall is at the top of the rankings at 120 pounds. Horn is sixth at 220 and Salazar is 12th at 106.

Grizzlies have two stops in Lamar this week

Fowler will wrestle twice in Lamar this week.

On Thursday, the Grizzlies, the Savages and Burlington will participate in a double dual, which will begin at 5 p.m. at the Lamar Community Building.

On Saturday, Fowler returns to Lamar for the Lamar Invitational. The first matches begin at 9 a.m., also at the Lamar Community Building.
