The Fowler High School wrestling team had a busy time this past weekend as it participated in two events in Lamar.

Lamar 77, Fowler 3

The Grizzlies had a dual meet with the Savages on Thursday and they were defeated by a score of 77-3. Seth McFall had Fowler's only individual win as he defeated Sergio Mendoza by a slim 7-6 decision at 113 pounds.

Burlington 54, Fowler 12

The Grizzlies also faced Burlington in Lamar on Thursday with the Cougars winning 54-12. Fowler's wins were by McFall by forfeir and by Orin Carnes (160) as he pinned Tyson Mireles in 3:06.

Lamar Savage Invitational

Fowler returned to Lamar on Saturday for the Lamar Savage Invitational.

The Grizzlies finished 10th in the team standings with 57 1/2 points.

McFall led the way again as he won the 113-pound individual championship. He scored a 16-0 technical fall win over Swink's Michael Romero in the final.

Three other Grizzlies were individual placers. Carnes was fourth at 160 pounds, Fernando Salazar was fifth at 106 and David Salazar at fifth at 138.

On the Mat rankings

Three Fowler wrestlers continue to be in Tim Yount's On the Mat rankings, which were released this past Friday.

McFall is the second-ranked wrestler at 113 pounds. J.J. Horn is sixth at 220 and Fernando Salazar is 11th at 106.

Fowler will be in Trinidad for the Gene Gagliardi Invitational. The first matches begin at 9 a.m.
