On Feb. 6, 11 students of the Fowler FFA Chapter traveled to Otero Junior College and dominated in the District 5 Leadership Development Events competition, clinching a few state qualifications.

The LDE competition consisted of Quiz Bowl, Parliamentary Procedure, Creed Speaking and Extemporaneous/Prepared Speech contests.

According to Fowler FFA Reporter Shayna Ede, the Quiz Bowl team, made up of Jeremiah Devore, Ashton Cash and Rebecca Baldwin, took top honors and will go on to compete at the state level in June.

The Parliamentary Procedure team included Kaitlyn Smith as chairman, Dominik Becerra as the secretary, Kaley Pieper, Danie Pruett, Thor Schiffer, Cutler Hampton, and Shayna Ede served as alternates for the team. The Parliamentary Procedure team will also compete at the state competition.

Becerra impressed with his extemporaneous speech, taking first place at OJC. Pieper placed second with her prepared speech, and Jacob Buchner placed third in the Creed Speaking contest.

According to OJC's Brooke Matthew, approximately 120 youth attended the event.

"The Fowler FFA Chapter would like to congratulate all participants and wish them good luck at State Convention in June," said Ede.
