The Fowler High School track and field teams competed in their second meet of the season on Saturday at the Lamar Savage Invitational.

The Lady Grizzlies tied for eighth in the girls' team standings with 42 points. Leading the Fowler girls was Emily Flanscha, who won the 1,600-meter run in 6:08.49.

Four other Lady Grizzlies placed in their events. Jacquelin Alvey was third in the 800 meters in 2:41.06; Ryanna Pruett was third in the triple jump with a leap of 30-1; Ashlyn Alvey was fourth in the 1,600 in 6:48.85, and Martha Castaneda was seventh in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles in 58.97 seconds.

The Lady Grizzlies also placed in two relay events, including a win in the 4x800 in 11:45.78. They were also sixth in the 4x200 in 2:03.17.

The boys placed 16th with 9 points. Orin Carnes was the only Grizzly to place as an individual: He was second in the 110-meter high hurdles in 16.91 seconds, and he was also eighth in the 300 hurdles in 48.64.

Fowler opens season in Pueblo

The Fowler track teams opened the 2019 season at the Larry Pickering Invitational hosted by Pueblo Centennial High School on March 16 at Dutch Clark Stadium.

Pruett was the only Lady Grizzly to place. She finished eighth in the triple jump at 30-9 1/2.

Fowler was also eighth in the 800-meter sprint medley relay in 2:07.23.

The Lady Grizzlies tied for 19th place in the girls' team standings with 2 points.

The Grizzly boys did not place at the Larry Pickering Invitational.

Two meets this week

Fowler will compete in two meets this week.

On Friday, it will be at the La Junta Open. The first events begin at 10 a.m. at Tiger Stadium.

On Saturday, Fowler will be at the Pueblo County Invitational, which begins at 9 a.m. at Pueblo County's stadium.
