The 34th Annual La Junta Trading Company Golf Classic is set for May 10 and 11. Proceeds from this annual event benefit individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities supported by InspirationField and to provide philanthropy efforts by giving back to the community.

A banquet, scheduled for May 10, will kick off the tournament. The event begins at 5:15 p.m. in the Commons Room at InspirationField in La Junta starting at 5:15 p.m., with dinner served at 6 p.m. There will be a silent and a live auction as part of the night’s festivities. A dance will immediately follow the auctions, at approximately 9 p.m.

The tournament is a two-man scramble format with play being held on May 11 with morning (7:30 a.m.) and afternoon (1 p.m.) flights/tee times.

Senior flights have been added this year for golfers 62 years of age and over.

The golf slots are filled on a first-come basis. There is a 96 player limit and a maximum 8-stroke differential between partners, 40 percent combined handicaps. Coed partners’ handicaps may be adjusted; GHIN handicaps preferred. Cash prizes totaling $400 will be awarded to each of the six flights.

This is the first year that La Junta Trading Company is sponsoring the golf tournament.

“We are very grateful to Elaine and her children of La Junta Trading Company, for sponsoring this great event," said InspirationField CEO Johnnie DeLeon. "La Junta Trading is a great retail operation and we are very excited to be celebrating 34 years holding this wonderful charity event."

The funds raised during the classic will be added to InspirationField’s Global Treasurz Expansion Fund and Dream Fund.

The Global Treasurz Expansion Fund was established to raise money to add a sorting facility to the existing Global Treasurz building to sort through all the thrift quicker and get more merchandise priced and on the floor in a more timely fashion.

The Dream fund was established to raise money to provide philanthropy opportunities as part of an effort to give back to the community, i.e. high school scholarships,fFree Santa’s Workshop, free Trunk or Treat, etc.

Several levels of sponsorship are available and include tickets to the banquet and tournament entry fees.
