A man was seriously injured and his passenger killed as a result of a car cash Saturday near Fowler.

According to the Colorado State Patrol, Jose Garcia, of Rocky Ford, was eastbound on U.S. 50 just before 8:30 a.m. when he lost control of the Saturn he was driving, traveled off the right side of the road and rolled 2 3/4 times.

Garcia, 41, was seriously injured and transported to Parkview Medical Center in Pueblo. He was listed in critical condition Sunday, but by Tuesday his condition had improved and was listed as good, hospital officials reported.

The passenger, Linda Garcia, of La Junta, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was 25 years old.

Jose Garcia and Linda Garcia were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash, which occurred about five miles east of Fowler, at milepost 356.

At this time, alcohol and speed are not being considered factors in the crash and the crash remains under investigation.
