Members and friends are reminded of the Wayne Kash Memorial Toy Run, leaving on Saturday from the La Junta Parking lot at noon. Riders will begin arriving around 10:30 to 11 a.m. Admission to the run is five dollars or an unwrapped new toy. You may participate with motorcycles, car or truck. It is a short run, just to the Rocky Ford Elks Lodge, where the toys will be stored.
The Wreaths Across America Campaign has begun. All members are urged to help sell wreaths. Please contact Jody Bracy to obtain order forms. She has a Facebook page which is user friendly and phone number 729-928-1848. Wreaths are $15 each. She can send the form to buyers.
Wreaths Across America sales and other fundraising efforts will help bring the Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall to the Lower Arksansas Valley. The AL 168 needs everyone’s help to bring this project home. This time the wall will be exhibited on a baseball field in La Junta which will be easily accessible to handicapped. The Legion needs to raise $10,000. Participating are Post 168, Manzanola; Post 8, Rocky Ford; Post 6, Las Animas; Post 2016, La Junta; Post 94, Ordway.
A Wreaths Across America Sale Event will be held 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at SSG Justin Lee Vasquez Veteran Memorial Park in Manzanola on Saturday, Oct. 19.
The American Legion District Meeting will be held starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 26 at the Manzanola Senior Center. Lunch will be served, potato burritos and green chili, for $7 per person. Jody Bracy is the chef.
American Legion Post 168 had a float in the Manzanola Homecoming Parade on Thursday.
The Manzanola School District will be hosting their annual Veteran’s Day Breakfast and ceremony at 9 a.m. on Nov. 11 at the elementary school with the ceremony to follow at the high school. Please RSVP to 719-462-5528.
American Legion Post 168 meets on the first Tuesday of the month at the Manzanola Senior Center at 7 p.m. Tuesday’s meeting had good attendance with several traveling from La Junta and guest Jeannie Smith.
