Manzanola 25 25 18 25 -3
Primero 18 17 25 17 -1

The Bobcat volleyball team hit the road for the fifth time in seven games this past Friday.

Their destination, the Primero Bulldogs home gym and a conference match.

They couldn’t have asked for a better start winning the first two sets 25-18 and 25-17. The Primero bunch bounced back however in the third set to stay alive winning 25-18.

Ten days ago, the Manzanola team jumped out to an early lead and looked like a lock to win, only to lose a heartbreaker in a full five set match to Edison. The Bobcats were determined to not allow that to happen again and collectively put their heads down and got the momentum back winning the match in the fourth set 25-17.

“It’s been great to see the team get to know each other on the court and play well together this season,” said Manzanola coach Ayanna Marshall. “Co-Captain and Setter, Hayden Pate, is able to generate a positive energy that keeps her teammates from getting into a negative mindset. The team leans heavily on the strong serves, attacks, and passes from sophomore and Outside Hitter, Heaven Martinez. She can usually change the momentum to our favor.”

“Our other CO-Captain and Middle, Elizabeth Bierman, was instrumental to our win against Primero,” added the Bobcat coach. “She racked up a lot of aces for us. Bierman really stepped up for the team when Primero started sending every second ball to the back
right of the court. She had to defend that area for us so the setter, Pate, could stay in our offense.”

The Bobcats have had a rough start when it comes to wins and losses. The coach capped it off by saying, “It’s through trials we learn what we can improve upon.”

“We’re excited about the coming weeks and the remainder of the season. We will have all players active and have attacking options from all positions.”
