The Hoehne Farmers have always been a formidable opponent, especially on their home turf. That made what happened this past Friday night under the lights just east of Interstate 25 in Farmer territory very impressive.
The scoring in the initial eight minutes of play was at a minimum, as the visiting Grizzlies had the lone touchdown to lead going into the second quarter ahead 6-0.
Things picked up in the next two quarters, however. The Fowler-8 built a halftime lead of 20-8 and increased that, yet again in the third quarter, to solidify that a rout was going to be the outcome. Four Grizzlies scores to none for the Farmers made it 44-8 with one quarter left on the scoreboard. The highlight of the action was 40-yard fumble recovery by Bitter, one of three he scored on the night. Jackson Bates also had an outstanding night with three touchdowns.
The final sent the visitors home in a great mood after notching another Arkansas Valley league win at 50-8 and a 5-0 overall record.
Fowler sits tied in first place along with McClave both teams at 2-0.
“Really nice to get a big win on the road against really good program that has had our number for quite some time,” stated a proud Fowler coach Mark VanSickle. “Really proud of how the boys worked all week and stepped up when we needed it the most.”
Up next for the Grizzlies is a home contest against 0-5 Wiley this Friday night set
for 7 p.m.
Fowler individual stats: Luke Bitter 5-13 43 yards passing; Jackson Bates 16 carries for 137 yards rushing; Braxton Bates 2 receptions for 26 yards, Jonathan Mobbley 2 receptions for 17 yards; Gabriel Proctor 9 total tackles and 1 sack.
