The Bobcats Volleyball team headed west to the town of Saguache this past Friday to face the combined team of Mountain Valley/Moffat. The match was a real buy for those who paid the admission price.

A tightly played conference match saw the visiting Bobcats keep their focus in the first two ‘back-at-you’ sets winning both 25-24 and 25-23. The Bobcats took the third set off, however, losing big 14-25. Another tight set followed in the fourth which went the Bobcats way sand sent the visitors home with the match victory 25-20.

“We were equally matched against Mountain Valley and it was great to have a win on the road,” said a pleased Manzanola coach Ayanna Marshall.

Saturday, the McClave Tournament welcomed five teams in Manzanola, La Veta, Granada, South Baca and host McClave. The Bobcats lost their matches but gained some needed experience during the day’s action. The La Veta Redskins as expected won the Tournament with relative ease.

The team always welcomes the opportunity to play our league leader in La Veta,” stated the Bobcat Coach. “We did a great job playing together and having a positive mental attitude. We played tough against La Veta, but were unable to come out with the win. Our match with Granada was not our best, so we are looking forward to meeting them again in two weeks.”

Individual Bobcat stats were: Heaven Martinez 5 kills, Emma Martinez 4 kills, Alyssa Saine 3 kills; H. Martinez 5 aces, 8 digs, 18 serve rec.; Hayden Pate 16 assists.

This weekend finds the Bobcats hosting Pikes Peak Christian (9-3) Tuesday night.
