The third-seeded Fowler High School football team will host Simla in the first round of the eight-man state playoffs on Saturday. Kickoff at Vibber Field will be at 1 p.m.

About Fowler

The Grizzlies are undefeated in nine games and easily won the Arkansas Valley League with a 6-0 record.

On offense, Fowler has scored 507 points for an average of 56.3 per game. The Grizzlies average 348.6 rushing yards per game and they are led by Joshua Daniels with 1,110 yards on 85 carries and he scored 19 touchdowns. Jackson Bates ran for 848 yards on 61 carries with 15 touchdowns, and Luke Bitter ran for 449 yards on 39 carries and he scored eight touchdowns. Bitter also completed 54 of 95 passes for 931 yards and 13 touchdowns. Johnathan Mobbley is the top receiver with 21 catches for 307 yards and five touchdowns, and Braxton Bates caught 11 passes for 149 yards and four touchdowns.

Defensively, the Grizzlies allowed 87 points which is averaging 9.7 per game. Gabriel Proctor is the leading tackler with 87, Orin Carnes leads in sacks with six, followed by Thor Schiffer with three, and Braxton Bates leads in interceptions with four.

About Simla

The Cubs had a record of five wins and three losses, and they tied for second place in the Southern League with a 2-2 record.

Simla has scored 200 points for an average of 25 per game. It averages 228.5 rushing yards per game. Its top rusher is Coletin Mazerall with 851 yards on 116 carries and 14 touchdowns. Mazerall is also the leading passer and he completed 49 of 85 passes for 954 yards and nine touchdowns. Brayden Glover leads in receptions with 20 for 300 yards and three touchdowns, and Chris Garza had 11 for 251 yards and two touchdowns.

On defense, the Cubs allowed 176 points, which is an average of 22 per game. Mazarell is also the top tackler with 111 and he leads in interceptions with four.

Common opponents

The teams have two common opponents in Las Animas and Swink.

The Grizzlies defeated Las Animas 62-6 last week, while the Cubs scored a 42-0 win over Las Animas in October. Against Swink, Fowler won by a score of 54-6 in August, while Simla won 28-14 in October.

Next week

The winner of this game will play either Mancos or Caliche. Should Fowler win, it will be on the road regardless the opponent. A Simla win would have them play at home.
