Manzanola 11 15 11 14 -51

Edison 9 8 15 14 -46

Friday the Bobcats 3-4 got back into the winning mode in their game against the McClave Cardinals 0-8. The Manzonola five clipped the wings of the host Cardinals in the first half then held on to get the win at 45-41.

“I have been very pleased with our progress,” commented a pleased Bobcats coach Stuart Booth. “We knew that if we could fight through our lack of confidence in ourselves that things would change. We got a good win against Hanover and then without one of our starters who was home sick against McClave and two other starters in early foul trouble, we battled through for a win.

The coach went on to say, “We got great play from some of our freshmen that will only be a plus for us down the road.

Saturday Manzanola traveled to Edison and their confidence grew with each quarter. Axel Escareno had a breakout game scoring 25 points along with holding their top scorer well below his average.

“Richard Roberts gave us a very solid game with 13 rebounds,” added coach Booth. “There is a quote that describes this team, ‘Basketball is like photography, if you don’t focus all you have is the negative.’ “These young men have never lost focus.”

Senior Axel Escareno 18 points on 7-19 shooting for 37 percent from the field; Daniel Escareno 9 points on 4-9 shooting for 44 percent from the field; Axel 13 rebounds 12 defensive and sophomore Richard Roberts 9 rebounds 8 defensive and 3 blocks.

The Bobcats will host two games this weekend. Antonito will be in town Friday at 5 p.m. and La Veta on Saturday at 2 p.m.
