Holly 7 9 13 10 -39
Fowler 9 6 12 8 -35
The Grizzlies jumped to a 4-0 lead before the Wildcats came back to tie the game at 9-9 early in the second eight minutes. The two teams clawed and scratch at each other like their mascot would have in the wild. One tam would pull slightly ahead then the other would come back to take the lead. The game was if nothing else was evenly matched as the five tie scores - at 13,21,23,30 and 32 - the rest of the way would indicate. It was as the old sports saying goes “it’s a shame either team had to lose.”
In the end the Wildcats ran off the winning margin to make the final a non- conference win for the Holly five at 39-35.
“We are struggling to find a rhythm offensively and are missing some easy shots and free throws,” said Grizzlies coach Lindsay Whalen. “We will continue to work in practice every day and turn this around.”
Kaley Pieper led the team in scoring with ten points followed by Jayden Osborne with eight. Juniors Emerson Mason and Pieper each had eight rebounds in the contest. Junior Ryanna Pruett and Pieper each had a block on the defensive end.
The team connected on 7-15 free throws.
Next up for the Fowler girls will be two league games starting Friday against Swallow Hill Academy followed by a Saturday match-up against league opponent Rocky Ford.
