You may hear a young violin virtuoso, Kerson Leong, at the Arkansas Valley Community Concert, Ed Stafford Theatre, at 7 p.m. on Feb. 13.

Leong will be 23 years old on Feb. 26. He studied at the Chapelle Musicale Reine Elisabeth under the direction of Augustin Dumay. He was a junior first prize winner at the Menuhin Competition.

Leong recently made his Carnegie Hall Stern Auditorium and is hailed as Canada’s next great violinist.

“Most musicians can only dream of performing in Carnegie Hall's 2800 seat Stern Auditorium. How many can say they made their debut there playing a new concerto written specifically for them by a major composer? Leong can ... Rutter composed ‘Visions’ for Leong. It is a four-movement work for solo violin, treble voices, harp and string Orchestra, conceived as a musical depiction of Jerusalem.”

He was picked by Maestro Yannick Nezet-Seguin to be his soloist-in-residence with the Orchestre Metropolitain de Montreal. He has performed at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music and the Sibelius Academy in Helsinki.

He has performed with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the Oslo Philharmonic, the Vienna Chamber Orchestra and many others world-wide. Recent debuts include the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Sibelius Academy Chamber Orchestra, and the Orchestre Metropolitan de Montreal.

A sample program includes Vocalise, Mexican Folk Songs, Hungarian Dance No. l, Liebeslied and Tambourine Chinois, Zigeunerweisen, Chaconne, Theme from Schindler’s List, Larghetto from Sonatina in G Major, Romanian Fold Dances, Introduction and Tarantella, Sabre Dance, Meditation from lThais, Czardas, Libertango.

Leong reaches out to young people and music lovers.

Season tickets are still available for the Arkansas Valley Concert Association, at $50 individual, $20 student, $150 family. Tickets at the door are $20. Yet to come are March 17, Double Double Duo, clarinet and accordion duo and Thursday, April 23, Sundae and Mr. Goessl - vocals, guitar and melodica, pop and jazz standards, plus one more concert, either country-western band or celtic duo from Ireland.
