I really don’t want to sound like I’m bragging but for someone who just turned somewhere in his sixties, I think I look a lot younger. On several occasions over the past few weeks I have been mistaken for a man described as armed and dangerous, no….. I mean described as in his late 50s. Forget the fact that it was a man on a wanted poster in the post office, it still is flattering.
Often when I am out in public, I notice that many people are closely studying my facial skin. Just the other day someone said to me, “Your face, it has a …a…”
“A smooth, youthful appearance,” I’ll answered.
“No, a piece of cheese doodle stuck to your upper lip,” they say.
This, of course, is just pure jealousy. What they really want to say is, "Dave, you don’t look a day over 59. How do you stay so young in appearance?”
Well, I guess it wouldn’t hurt to reveal my tips for looking younger than my age.
First, get plenty of sleep. I’m not talking about the recommended eight hours a day. If that’s all you're getting, it won’t be long before people will start asking you if you want your senior discount.
When I say plenty of sleep, I mean getting as much sleep as you possibly can. As Rip Van Winkle - who slept for 20 years and didn’t age a day - would say, sleep is a highly beneficial activity. Unfortunately, for some reason many people frown on sleeping, especially during working hours.
So you have to do what I’ve learned to do: Lie about napping. If someone calls me when I’m asleep in the middle of the day, I sit bolt upright and answer the phone in an extremely perky voice that sounds like a game show host on uppers.
"I’m sorry were you sleeping, the caller says.
“No, I wasn't sleeping,” I shout.
“I’ll call back later,” the caller offers.
“Fine,” I shout, “I won’t be sleeping then, either.”
Secondly, along with getting plenty of sleep, I would suggest that you avoid all regularly scheduled medical appointments. How many times have you heard somebody tell you a story like this:
"Ol' Ed was feeling just great, no problems. Then he went in for a routine physical checkup, and the next thing he knew he was in critical condition with half of his internal organs sitting in an entirely different wing of the hospital.”
The final, most important tip for looking younger is: Learn to manage stress.
You need to relieve your stress. You must not let it become bottled up inside, where it can cause harm to you. You need to let it out, where it can cause harm to others.
