J.J. Horn, a Manzanola student on the Fowler wrestling team, took fifth place in the 220-pound weight division at the Colorado High School Activities Association Class 2A State Tournament last weekend at the Pepsi Center.

Horn opened the tournament by pinning North Park's Cordell Garriott in 50 seconds. In the quarterfinals, he pinned Ethan Hotz of Monte Vista in an even three minutes.

Horn was defeated in the semifinals by Wray's Jose Molina in 40 seconds. Molina went on to take second in the division.

In the consolation bracket, Horn was defeated in the semifinals by Akron's Xavier Livesay in 2:15.

In the fifth place, match, Horn defeated County Line's Taite Johnson in 59 seconds.

Fowler had one other wrestler qualify for the state tournament in Orin Carnes, who competed at 160 pounds. Carnes' time at state was brief as he lost to Paonia's Grey Neal in 3:46 in the first round. He then lost to Limon's Bradyn Tacha in the first round of consolation by a 4-2 decision.

The Grizzlies finished in 30th place with 15 points.
