Thank you Pueblo West for doing your part in containing the spread of COVID-19 through practicing the recommendations provided by the CDC, our State and the Pueblo County region.
The Pueblo West Metropolitan District is committed to the health and wellness of our employees and community. We have been working tirelessly over the last few weeks, in conjunction with Pueblo County, to ensure that we are doing our part to contain the spread of COVID-19, while continuing to provide the community with services.
As most local governments do, the Pueblo West Metro District has emergency operations plans in place should we need to respond and adapt accordingly to an emergency such as this. We have already put in place several measures over the last few weeks. We closed our facilities on March 17th to the public, including water billing, parks and recreation, committee of architecture, and fire stations. All services related to these functions are still available to the community via phone and email. We also did postpone our sports programs and activities. Since then, we have also implemented work from home procedures and staggered staffing across our departments.
We recognize that this is a trying time for our community and in honoring our commitment to provide our community with safe water, we want to support our residents who are experiencing financial hardships during this time. Therefore, the water utilities department is suspending service disconnections and delinquent fees for residential and commercial accounts until further notice during the COVID-19 pandemic. Customers who have outstanding bills, who are laid off or having a difficult time paying their bills are encouraged to continue paying bills as they can and call the water billing department at 547-5000 to discuss payment arrangements. In an effort to help those customers going through a financial hardship because of the COVID-19 pandemic, we will be working closely with customers to ensure there are no service interruptions and suspend all delinquent fees until further notice.
For more information about COVID-19 in the Pueblo region we encourage you to visit the website puebloemergency.info for updates from multiple agencies. To support our local businesses, please visit pueblochamber.org to find Pueblo area restaurants open for take-out or delivery.
As we work through this trying time together we also encourage you to share your positive messages in the community via social media with the hashtag #positivepueblowest and be entered into a drawing to win a gift card to a local business here in Pueblo West! In an effort to promote positivity, we encourage residents to share positive messages and share photos using the hashtag to inspire others and boost our community moral.
We hope you all stay healthy and safe during this time. As always if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.
