An adult male was found dead in a field west of Fowler, the Otero County Sheriff's Office said in a Facebook announcement to its official news page.

As of Monday morning, the age and identity of the man has not been released pending notification to next of kin.

The sheriff's office responded to a report Saturday of a deceased male found in a field near Highway 167 and County Road LL.

The cause of the man's death is under investigation and will be confirmed by autopsy, the sheriff's office said in a news release.

Otero County Sheriff's Office, Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the 16th Judicial District Attorney's Office are investigating the matter.

The La Junta Tribune-Democrat inquired for details surrounding the death Monday morning but did not receive a response in time for publication.

Questions asked included the man's age, whether the death is considered suspicious at this time or if foul play is considered a potential factor, and whether there was any indication of how the man ended up in a field west of Fowler.
