James Zook named overall best actor at Otero Arts Festival

Las Animas High School's James Zook was named the best overall actor at the Otero Arts Festival.

Las Animas High School senior James Zook competed in the Otero Arts Festival last week and earned some high honors.

Zook competed against seven other entrants in the monologue division and won honorable mention status. His competition was against students from La Junta.

Zook was awarded Best Actor overall in the competition.

Zook, Cailey Burns and Sarah Van Vleet performed a scene from an Edgar Allen Poe Radio Play and won an honorable mention. Jimmi Boyd and Rayelynn Landry performed a scene from Check Please. Kyla Whattler and Phoebe Frausto performed a scene from the Princess and the Pirate. They competed against five other scenes performed by students from La Junta and Swink.

This year was the 65th Annual Otero Arts Festival, which started as an art contest for middle and secondary students to showcase their artistic talents. It is sponsored by Otero Junior College and over the past several years, the contests for writing, art, music and theater have attracted more then 2,000 entries annually.
